Dutch & Wolf: Cycle Tailor

July 31, 2012 | By | No Comments

It was great to hear from the guys at Dutch & Wolf about their Cycle Tailor venture that opened earlier this year. Like any good master tailor these guys really put the emphasis on quality merchandise; specialising in Colnago and Kyklos, as well as meeting the needs of every individual customer. Like the 2013 model but prefer it ‘project black’ style – not a problem. Go check them out, if not to buy then at least for the bike porn. And guys, i’ll take the C59 Italia just the way she is thanks.

Instagram ‘Wants’

July 30, 2012 | By | No Comments

As seen on Mission Workshop and Deaf Pigeons instagram. Some quality swag. The story behind the bag is that Rapha are taking on deliveries around the city during the Olympics. The Deaf Pigeon Jersey should be able to be had by end of week!

Raleigh Maca 2013

July 30, 2012 | By | No Comments

Bit of a departure from the last model in terms of colourway, personally I loved the identity of the burgandy one but good to see Macaframa continuing to grow. Looking forward to seeing what they put out next in terms of filming.

The 5th Floor: Mapped Out

July 30, 2012 | By | No Comments

The 5th Floor has always been pretty international in its make up reflecting the very melting pot of a city it has evolved from. Now with factions in NYC and Glasgow we truly are international. Mr Perkins of Deaf Pigeon was good enough to construct this map to visualise the fact, more than that it will be full interactive allowing us to plot our movements and hook up for rides when were on the road. It will be live asap!

Waiting for the olympic road race

July 29, 2012 | By | No Comments

The 5th Floor went to Richmond Park outside London to see the pro’s race past during the London olympic road race. We came out at 8 in the morning and spent 5 hours in the sun that day waiting for the cyclists. Here is a scrambled edit of what clips I was bored enough to film during the day : ) If you look at my stuff regularly you’ll be quick to notice my two fav objects of affection portraid here.

Men’s Olympic Road Race 2012 Photos

July 28, 2012 | By | No Comments

Today, Erik, Viv, Johnny and I went to Richmond Park to watch the Men’s Olympic Road Race go past twice and Luke and Matt went to Box Hill to see them  go past 9 times, lucky them. Unfortunately Team GB didn’t do well, they were in front of the main peloton most of the race with no help from any other country, it was Team GB x The World. Great effort from all GB riders and well done for all the hard work and for looking strong at the front. Next, lets see Wiggo smash it at the TT. Click the slideshow below or here or here to see photos that Erik Jonsson took from today.

TRAKKE: Shop Visit

July 28, 2012 | By | One Comment

One of the privlages I had on my recent return home was spending time with ‘Trakke’. Unfortantely Angus had departed by this point and therefore the photos were left to myself and the iphone.

Trakke- is the brainchild of Alec Farmer, the premise being to produce high quality handmade messenger bags right here in Glasgow. I knew myself and Alec would get on as soon as we met – his production philosophy is spot on. These bags are in many ways counter culture; timeless yet classic, simple but well thought out, they don’t have a lifespan other than that inflicted by the owner. Trakke as the brand name is itself derived from the idea of people finding their own path as well as hinting toward a Scandanavian design aesthetic. Alec has turned to a professional sail-maker to assist him in the production who has enhanced the craftsmanship of the operation and in turn the bags through experience with directional stitching and reinforcement adding to the level of detail you can expect. This has afforded Alec more time to invest in product design. The studio space reflects the out of the box thinking Alec is applying, with parachutes draped around and various prototypes in testing. You can see this has filtered through into the current range with buckles and bag furnishings employed from unusual sources such as maritime and military. The waxed cotton that is the main material used is bought in rolls that aside from standard black will be used until then end of the roll and another color brought in, so if your digging the mustard yellow like I was get on it! The waxed cotton builds up a patina of use and is one of these materials that looks wrong brand new. I know Alec has some interesting Harris tweed colabs in the works as well as an extended range beyond the backpack and Messenger bag. Check out the website here, or if your local shoot him an email and go see Alec and indulge in the process of being able to see your bag being manufactured by some pretty awesome humans.
