Parkour Ride

October 8, 2014 | By | No Comments

Last Saturday we participated in the Parkour Ride event. This is a new bike racing concept where multi-discipline riders race up and down a multi-storey car park whilst manoeuvring obstacles.

There were a big mix of riders who raced on the day including pros from David Millar – Road, Liam Phillips – BMX, Manon Carpente – Downhill World Champion to an Ambulance Paramedic. Then there were the 5th, with George Garnier in the pro Fixed Gear category after his spectacular RHC performance. Joining him were Rudy Melo, Leo Tong and Alex Blomeley.

Watching Liam Phillips at the start line was incredible, he shot out from the gate at such a speed that he could over take anyone from the opening gun shot. The course was very narrow so if you had a good start or the inside line you would have had a good advantage. This was exactly how George felt after his head-to-head race, mentioning he could have gone faster but had no room to push through safely.

The event/course was more focused for BMXers resulting in the Top 3 being BMX riders followed by Mountain Bikers, but it was a very interesting and fun event to be involved in.

Box Hill KOM Challenge by Daniel Slotte

August 28, 2014 | By | 2 Comments

I’ve never done a Strava challenge before. This is mainly because most Strava challenges seem to involve indiscriminately racking up a large number of kilometres (or metres of vertical ascent), an old fashioned quantity-over-quality approach to training which I’ve never subscribed to. I love Strava for the segments though, so when I saw a Box Hill KOM Challenge announced I knew this could be something for me. The challenge was simple – fastest time up the famous Zig Zag Road over a two week period wins. Making this more interesting was the fact that Box Hill would feature as the final categorised climb of the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey Classic (1.HC) road race, ensuring a number of pros would also be logging times going up.

My previous fastest time (5:44)… (Click more to read on) Read More

#5THBASEMILES

January 2, 2014 | By | One Comment

For some this is the hardest time of year to get themselves out the doors, for others its the easiest. For me its one of the most rewarding – a chance to re-affiliate yourself with why you enjoy riding; with friends, with nature, with coffee shops and without too much pressure of impending races or overly structured training.

To reward those out riding the base miles we’re offering a competition to win a winter survival pack of our iPac3 case and Ass Saver.

To enter follow us on instagram @the5thfloor
Take a picture of your winter training and tag it #5thbasemiles (should be this winter 2013/2014)
We’ll pick a winner after January 31st and post their photo on the blog.

Good saturday of racing allover for the 5th. Josh, Kendal, Ed and Erik where out racing under the steel skies of London. While I scuttled in midfield Josh took 2nd in the 4s. Kendal stayed out with a compatriot for most of the 4/3/2’s but got taken back towards the end. These photos where taken by Viv at the redbridge spring warmups. On Sunday Josh, Kendal, Ed and Rudy went on to race the San Fairy Ann Sprint Crits down in kent, more on that soon. In other news Dave put in some hard work stateside and took 1st in his cat 5/4 field in Jersey on saturday and third in the Cat5 field in central park CRCA race on Sunday.
